In 1997, the Institute of Advertising and Marketing Communications in Zlín was founded. It followed the ideas of the famous entrepreneur, Tomáš Baťa, whose shoe company "Baťa" focused as the first one in this city in the first half of the twentieth century on the relationship between design and advertising. In 2002, the Institute changed into the Faculty of Multimedia Communications (FMC) and it became the third faculty of Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín. It focused on the fields of study such as: Animation and Audiovisual Arts, Footwear and Fashion, Advertising Photography and Graphic Design, Marketing Communications and Product and Spatial Design. Student works have won many awards and in 2011, one of the student designs, a concept of a tractor, was even awarded the Red Dot Design Award.
